เกม ?Mass Effect? เวอร์ชั่นพีซีภาคแรกมีระบบตรวจสอบแผ่น โดยจะทำการตรวจสอบผ่านระบบออนไลน์ทุกๆ 10 วันซึ่งทำให้เกิดกระแสต่อต้านวิพากษ์วิจารณ์อย่างมากจากเกมเมอร์ ล่าสุดเกมในภาคที่สอง ที่จะวางจำหน่ายในเดือนมกราคม ปีหน้า ไบโอแวร์ออกมายืนยันอย่างชัดเจนว่าระบบตรวจสอบแผ่นที่ยุ่งยากก่อนหน้านี้จะ ถูกตัดออกไป และใช้ระบบตรวจสอบแผ่นแบบธรรมดาเมื่อจะเริ่มเล่นเกม
